STAIRS RESANDING REFINISHING We can make arrangement s to make any modification necessary.

You only need to ask and we can explore what might be possible, after all Stairs are my forte' and custom hardwood flooring can be applied and decorated

sand the actual treads or steps  see more.....

. The risers of the staircase. We never sand spindles, railings or stringers. This requires a specialist.

Most risers – the back, vertical face of the stairs – are covered with a very thin veneer over plywood. Because this veneer is extremely thin, it can’t be sanded. You have a couple of options

Paint the Riser Skirting and Spindles in the same color,  This is a very popular look among designers and can be found in all of the latest home trend magazines. It’s a very classy look that has the benefit of visually opening the staircase providing an airy, spacious feeling.

You also have the option of re-veneering them but painting the risers is a far cheaper choice. It’s also much easier to maintain the risers down the road as all you will need to do is give them a fresh coat of paint every few years if needed.

. As we talked about above, we’ve tested many types of finish systems and we only offer ones that we know will look good years down the road and can stand up to abuse. Dominantly Glitsa ™Swedish finish Troweling of filler and finish is an ancient art and is the standard of all high quality finishing. Trowel ling cuts off raised grain, it cleans, it fills divots, cracks and voids with finish, It fills scalloped soft grain with finish allowing the afterwards mopped coats to sit on top and give the floor a much flatter appeal, Way better! Uses three different sawing methods on our premium site finished Hardwood flooring Plain sawn  Plain sawn (also called flat sawn) is the most common cut. It produces the maximum yield and therefore costs less. Plain-sawn lumber has varying grain orientations. The grain can run parallel, diagonal or perpendicular to the face of the board. This variation can cause un-even drying which makes the board more likely to warp (cup, twist, and bow). The board will also shrink somewhat in thickness as well as width. A plain sawn floorboard contains more variation than the other two cuts because grain patterns resulting from the growth rings are more obvious. Quarters awn Quarter sawing produces flooring with annual growth rings running almost straight along the face of the board. Quarters awn flooring materials tend to remain flat despite changes in moisture content and are less likely to shrink. Quarter-sawn flooring also has superior ability to hold paints and stains. This process costs more because quarter sawing requires more time and skill to cut and it yields less board footage from each log. Rift sawn Rift sawn is similar to quarters awing, but the cut is made at a slightly different angle.

Project Wood flooring will perform best when the interior environment is controlled to stay within a relative humidity range 30% to 50% and a temperature range 60F to 80F. The chart below indicates the moisture content wood will likely have at any given combination of temperature and humidity. Note that equilibrium moisture contents in the recommended temperature/humidity range (green area) coincide with the 6% to 9% range within which most hardwood flooring is manufactured. Although some movement can be expected even between 6% and 9%, wood can expand and shrink dramatically outside that range.

Refinishing Your Hardwood Floor Yourself If you can no longer bring the sparkling touch to your loved hardwood floor even after endless washing and polishing it may be the time to consider its refinishing. While refinishing your hardwood floor is not as hard as you might think the key to its success is preparation. Although hardwood floor refinishing is relatively easy job it can be quite dusty and messy. If you are not quite sure about your refinishing skills we will gladly help. If you are a skilled handyman then read on. Preparing For Hardwood Floor Refinishing To prepare your house or an apartment for refinishing you should consider the following: remove curtains and blinds, seal off all adjoining openings with plastic, and close doors, then seal them with rolled-up damp towels. These simple precautions will make cleaning up a lot easier the refinishing is done. Essential Repairs To achieve the best results, all the repairs that are needed to be done on your hardwood floor should be dealt with before you begin the refinishing. Make sure to inspect the entire floor area - check carefully for cracks, protruding nails and squeaky boards. Solid Wood flooring comes in three basic types:

1. Strip flooring

2. Plank flooring  nailed. Screw holes can be covered with wooden plugs. Ship deck random alternating widths

 3. Parquet flooring comes in standard patterns of 6" x 6" blocks.

Real hardwood floors can be sanded and refinished over several generations of use.

Solid wood flooring expands and contracts with changes in your home's relative humidity. Normally, installers compensate for this movement by leaving an expansion gap between the floor and the wall. Base molding is the traditional "cover-up" for this gap.

VANCOUVER, BC  Hardwood flooring  from  AHF All  hardwood floors 604 603 7317 offers ALL the different types of floor finish for your wood floor, SWEDISH ( acid curing or conversion varnish) , Water borne polyurethane. Each type has its advantages, and understanding the differences between the two will help you to make the best decision. Whichever you choose, it is important to note that the single most important factor in how long the finish will last is not what type of finish is used, but how much and what kind of traffic the floor will see. Whichever finish you choose, you can be confident that the products are of the highest quality and have years of successful use and wear behind them. Regardless of finish type, the most important factors in determining the life of your floor's finish are the degree of wear and tear it will see and how   demandingly is maintained.

Swedish Finish Swedish finish was developed in the early 1950's in Scandinavia  By Dr A.G. Gota

and quickly gained popularity in Europe. It has been the industry standard here in the British Columbia for about 60 years,   because it is a truly The Best Maintenance free floor finish  'no wax' finish. The only maintenance required is light damp mopping,   Swedish finish also has a reputation for durability unmatched by all but a few heavy-duty commercial grade finishes. highly volatile and toxic, and requires special precautions, including customers planning to be off the premises for at least a day or two after the final coat is applied, as well as removing pets and plants from the work area for the same duration. We may also ask that appliances with pilot lights be turned off or disconnected prior to the commencement of work. Please be prepared to re-light any pilot lights that we may have turned off. Light foot traffic may resume after 24 hrs can be worked on

and furniture may be replaced after three days hours, but the finish is not fully cured for up to 15 days,

and in some situations, There can be more off gassing for a longer period

therefore area rugs should not be put back on the floor for as long as is tolerable (if areas are covered before the end of this curing period, the covered areas will cure more slowly, and could result in more pronounced color differences between exposed and covered areas). Swedish finish is a two-up to five coat procedure. The primary disadvantage of the Swedish finish is the powerful and unpleasant odour. We generally apply 2 coats of Swedish finish on successive days, and AHF-all hardwood floor  ltd always recommends vacating the premises while these coats of finish are being applied. Sensitivity to the solvents in the finish varies greatly from individual to individual, and some customers have reported a lingering odour for as long as a week after the final coat is applied. The majority of our customers who choose Swedish finish, however, find that if the house can be aired out soon after the final coat is dry, they are able to move back in the next day.

Waterborne Finish For many of our customers (almost a quarter, in fact), the Swedish finish and the fumes and inconvenience associated with it prompt them to choose a waterborne finish. Waterborne floor finish technology has only been around for about fifteen years, so these finishes do not share the time-tested reputation for durability that Swedish finish enjoys. In spite of this, we have had great success with waterborne products for many years, and as the technology becomes more and more advanced, we expect waterborne floor finishes to be more widely used as the VOC levels start to lower due to compliment

Waterborne finish is much less toxic and allow our customers to get back into their homes a little sooner an air-drying urethane-acrylic emulsion. Waterborne finish technology is a relatively recent technology, and therefore waterborne finish products have yet to earn the same  durability reputation as for beauty they are no where near the same look as Swedish finish not even close. (Swedish finish (conversion Varnish) not available for purchase except to licensed contractors.) Ease of application also makes waterborne floor finishes the best choice for customers who anticipate doing maintenance coating themselves. Waterborne finishes  total opaque and different appearance from Swedish finish as well. There is a huge difference on most species maple not so noticeable difference in color, which is difficult to characterize, so we generally show our customers samples at your home office or business to  You cannot compare  waterborne finish which can  also appear 'rougher' or 'less smooth' than the Swedish finish due to the lack of volume .  We sell, our water borne floor finishes as a four coat package additional coat of waterborne finish is not required or needed as no noticeable increase in look depth of sheen increase after this fourth coat  recommended. There is an additional charge for additional coats of finish. Regardless of the type of finish you choose, the single most important factor determining how long the finish will last on your floor is what type and the degree of traffic to which your floor is subjected. A home with 2 adults, 4 children and a Large great Pyrenees dog, for example, will need its floors maintained much sooner and with greater frequency than a single-occupant, no-pet household.  Thank You for your interest in Vancouver Hardwood floor refinishing at http://allhardwoodfloor.com  ALLHARDWOODFLOOR LTD Please take a moment to thoroughly read the following information about New wood floor installation.
